   We started our adoption process, as I'm sure others do, with a slight fear of the unknown. A friend referred us to "Adoption by Gentle Care" after their successful adoption experience. We were thrilled to be accepted into their adoption program, as they were our first choice of agencies to work with.

   We were educated about the benefits of open adoption, yet at the same time, they enabled us to make decisions that were comfortable for us. Looking back now, we cannot imagine having chosen another route of adoption where these forms of education wouldn't have been a priority. "Gentle Care" prepared us for more than life with our newborn, but also our future as parents facing the special needs and issues an adoptive child has. The classes held by the agency were wonderful and also a great way to meet other people who've dealt with many of the same feelings we has and who, like us, longed to be parents.

   Everyone we dealt with at the agency was open, honest and upfront with information. They were forward with us about the possibility of disappointment, which we did experience, but they were also always encouraging and positive. After 9 months in their program we were matched with Tiah, our unbelievable birth mom. The birthparent coordinator was by our side when we met her for the first time which was such a comfort to us. We "clicked" with Tiah instantly! So much so that she invited us to her last ultrasound appointment and also to the birth of the baby. We were in constant communication with "Gentle Care," and they were always making sure we were completely comfortable with all of the arrangements. We were by Tiah's side through 20 hours of labor and the birth of our son. (Plus, he was born on his daddy's birthday? What a gift!) We were able to form such a strong bond with Tiah during that time and over the next 3 days until the paperwork was signed.

   We have no doubt that our bond with her will no nothing but benefit our son in the future, as we will be able to better answer his questions about his birth family. We continue to keep in touch with Tiah…after all, we have a lifelong bond with her through our son! We can honestly say that there is nothing we would change about our adoption experience with, "Adoption by Gentle Care." They will, without a doubt, be seeing us again when we adopt baby #2!
