Testimonials
We adopted our beautiful daughter Lindsay when she was three days
old. We received a call from the agency saying "your daughter
has been born and you are to pick her up in Akron at 9:00 tomorrow
morning". I will never forget those words I so longed to hear!
We had no idea a birthmother had chosen us. We were also going to
meet Amy, her birthmother and birth grandmother at Amber Restaurant.
I was so grateful for the time we spent with her and the information
and pictures she gave us. It was such an emotional meeting. What
do you say to a young lady who was willing to give us her child?
We had so much we wanted to say in such a short time because we
didn't know if we would ever see her again.
We had decided on the name of "Lindsay" for a girl prior
to our meeting. We walked out of the restaurant and looked up at
the sign and it read "Lindsay's Amber Restaurant". We
never noticed it going in! After our meeting, Amy signed the adoption
papers and Chris, the Gentle Care social worker, brought this beautiful
tiny little baby into our lives. Amy had dressed her in an outfit
she had bought and the inside brand name was "Welcome Home".
Later we learned Amy had no idea the tag said "Welcome Home".
We kept in touch with Amy through Gentle Care as required with
pictures and letters. We again met her with Lindsay at six months
old with a Gentle Care social worker as we were still not allowed
to have any identifying information. We continued to correspond
through Gentle Care and now have letters we will always treasure.
We felt so comfortable with Amy and knew she loved Lindsay and had
Lindsay's best interest in her heart. Two years after Lindsay came
into our lives, we decided an open adoption was right for all of
us. In the very beginning of our adoption process, we said we would
"consider" an open adoption and as time went on we felt
an open adoption was "essential" to us, Lindsay and Amy.
We still continue to write, call and visit her on occasion. We just
celebrated Lindsay's eighth Gotcha Day. Over the years, she has
had many questions regarding adoption which we have had answers.
There were some questions regarding her adoption that only Amy could
answer. She is very comfortable with being adopted and happy to
know her birthmother's entire family. She certainly knows how much
she is loved by all and how blessed we are because of her.
As I said earlier, "what do you say to a birthmother who is
willing to give you her child"? I later told Amy what she meant
to us and that "thank you" just never seemed enough. She
said "thank you could never be enough for the love and life
you have given Lindsay".
The adoption process through Gentle Care was
wonderful. The staff was so supportive and informative. We look
forward to the annual Adoption by Gentle Care picnics. It is amazing
how many families have been formed because of Adoption by Gentle
Care!
