Birthmother Adoption Process
Pregnant & Considering Adoption?
Adoption by Gentle Care will provide the caring and professional help you need during and after your pregnancy.
- Contact Gentle Care by phone at 1-800-824-9633, or via e-mail.
- Meet with a trained and compassionate counselor who comes to you.
- Complete and sign various forms concerning medical background, health history, and what you are looking for in adoptive parents.
- Help Gentle Care obtain prenatal records, or start prenatal care.
- Select an adoptive couple from Gentle Care's Waiting Families profiles.
- Meet the Adoptive Parent(s), or have some type of communication if you wish.
- Along with the Adoptive Parents, you decide the comfort level of the openness in the relationship.
- When you deliver, you decide how much time you spend with the baby. Most likely you would be released from the hospital within 24-48 hours.
- The baby remains in the hospital until adoption forms are signed no sooner than 72 hours after the birth.
- You sign the adoption forms with your social worker from Gentle Care 3 days after the birth. You never have to appear in court.
- Gentle Care social worker then goes to the hospital and places the baby with the adoptive parents you chose. You can participate in this if you would like.
- Adoptive parents provide pictures of the baby and a letter to you once a month for the first 12 months after birth. Gentle Care will facilitate the exchange of pictures and letters between the adoptive parents and you as often and as long as all parties desire.
- Your counselor is here to support you through the entire process.
